Snow White Wedding Inspiration

Lately I've been seeing lots of themed wedding shoots and wedding inspiration based on fairy tales.  And to be honest, I haven't really loved most of them.  Some of them are beautiful, but don't really seem to have anything to do with the fairy tale they're supposedly representing.

So when I came across a picture of an amazingly gorgeous bouquet with apples in it, I knew I needed to use it for a Snow White themed inspiration board.  And it just evolved from there.

I tried to combine elegant princess with woodland charm to capture the feeling of the Snow White.  The red lips, apples, and mirror all reflect the original fairy tale, while some of the bridal attire is more in line with the Disney envisioning.  

One thing I really wanted to include but just couldn't find anything that really fit what I was looking for was a wishing well.  How cute would it be to have little wishing well planters for centerpieces?  Or instead of a guest book, guests could write little "well wishes" and put them in the wishing well.  I guess if I ever actually do a styled shoot based on this, I can make that happen.

I'm planning on doing some more inspiration boards based on other fairy tales... We'll see how soon that actually happens!

Happy Spring everyone!  In spite of the snow still clinging to shady patches of my yard, I am ready to celebrate spring!

And what better way to do so than with some beautiful spring bulbs?

I love the red and white striping on this dark purple tulip.  Gorgeous!

This little crocus blossom is the first flower from my garden this year!  I had to rescue it from the snow yesterday (it snapped off under the weight).  So excited for more to come!

Guest Post on DA Weddings

One of my friends from high school runs a fabulous wedding blog, and recently asked me to write a guest post for her.  Of course I was excited to do it, and put together what I hope is a useful post for planning brides.  It's all about who gets what in terms of flowers for the wedding party.  I've written a little on that topic before in this blog post.

Sorry I've been kind of m.i.a. lately.  I took somewhat of a break this fall to work on some other projects I had going on.

Like starting an etsy shop!  Not at all related to flowers actually, but lots of fun.  It's mostly finger puppets and other things made out of felt right now, but I'm working on expanding to clothes and accessories for kids as well.

Here's one of my favorites - a Noah's Ark finger puppet set.

I decided to focus a bit more on this business through Christmas (lots of Christmas present orders!) but now I'm back and going to be spending more time on flowers again.  

And because I feel like I just can't post on here without some wedding flower inspiration for you.  These are photos from a wedding I did a while ago that the photographer sent me after I'd already done a blog post on this wedding, so I never posted them on here!  But they're gorgeous and I wanted to share.

fall flowers and a pumpkin

I had the opportunity to work on some fall-themed florals recently for a dinner at my church.  It was lots of fun, and I love fall colors!  Plus, I got to use a pumpkin!  I've been wanting to do an arrangement like this for a while, but well, you just can't do this any time of year but fall!  And, as long as I had the flowers, I did a little bouquet as well.

floating roses - an elegant white wedding

Elegant and classy, but with a unique twist.  So many weddings have round tables, so it was fun to do long tables - they allow for a different style and a little more room.  Instead of just one centerpiece, we went with a row of centerpieces down the length of the table.  And those of you thinking "yeah, but that would totally blow my budget! I can't afford more than one centerpiece per table!" - definitely not the case here.  Each vase had only a single flower in it - a large white garden rose floating on top of the water.  We did mix it up a bit so some tables had a taller centerpiece in the middle, but the tables with only the floating roses looked just as lovely.  And the little glass votives, lace tablecloths, and delicate china gave it an even more romantic feeling.

Retro Wildflower Themed Shoot

Here are just a few of the pictures from the awesome shoot I worked on a few weeks ago.  Thanks April from Bladh Photography for the gorgeous photos!  They were going for a very retro/vintage look, with the flowers looking very natural and organic, so we used some wildflowers, and some things you might find growing in your own garden.  We also used mason jars and some vintage looking vases and pitchers to hold the flowers and tie it all together.  Enjoy!
